The second annual McGladrey Classic, a PGA TOUR Fall Series event, will be played on the historic Seaside Course of Sea Island Golf Club, October 10-16, 2011. Like the 2010 tournament, this event promises to be another fantastic time for spectators and players as they experience Sea Island’s rich history, culture and extraordinary hospitality.
With the help of tournament host and chairman Davis Love III, the Davis Love Foundation and title sponsor McGladrey, the McGladrey Classic is expected to be a hit as it draws one of the strongest fields on the PGATOUR’s Fall Series schedule. Many PGA TOUR players who live or train at Sea Island Golf Learning Center, including Davis Love III, Lucas Glover, Jonathan Byrd, Matt Kuchar and Zach Johnson, as well as defending champion Heath Slocum have already committed to play in the event.
Special Olympics, Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia and other local children and family charities will receive the proceeds from this spectacular event.
In the inaugural Classic, Heath Slocum took the championship by one shot with a 266 over Bill Haas, thanks in part to Slocum’s 60-foot putt on the 16th hole. It was his fourth win on the PGA TOUR, taking home $720,000, part of the tournament’s $4 million purse.
